Press Release Summary: Failure to carry out annual services on gas appliances with a Corgi registered engineer could hold serious consequences for local landlords, as the number of deaths from carbon dioxide poisoning continues to rise.
Press Release Body: Legally, landlords must ensure that all their properties' gas appliances are serviced every twelve months from the point of installation. Failing to carry out these checks could put tenants at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. The penalty for landlords not servicing their appliances annually is a fine of up to £5000; if the case goes to the Crown Court, they could even face imprisonment.
Kathryn Hamilton, MD of local plumbing company Hamilton and Thurston says, "Not only is it an offence not to have gas utilities serviced, it's also illegal to allow anyone other than a CORGI or British Gas registered engineer to carry out the inspection. All engineers will need photographic ID and landlords should make sure they ask to see this before allowing any inspections and work to go ahead."
Kathryn Hamilton is extremely concerned about the amount of Gloucestershire landlords who are failing to make these essential annual checks. She continues, "Landlords are potentially putting their tenants at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. We offer annual services on all domestic gas appliances and provide landlord certificates that can be issued to tenants."
Kathryn Hamilton is available for interview. Further information is available on request.
